Ellipticals

Ellipticals or elliptical trainers should also be considered as an option when designing a home gym. Most ellipticals (also known as cross trainers) work on the upper and lower body. They are designed to provide a cardiovascular workout rather than build muscle.

An elliptical cross trainer is similar to a treadmill with the focus on exertion of leg muscles and the heart. Ellipticals provide a mid-range of leg motion between that of stationary bikes and treadmills. ellipticaltrainer

Some models include mp3 players so that you can listen to your music while working out. Some are designed to fold and be easily stored, thus saving room for those who have limited floor space.

Elliptical Trainer vs. Treadmill

Elliptical trainers are low-impact machines that don't strain your muscles or any part of your body beyond its limits because your feet never come off the pedals! The one muscle that the elliptical machine works out the most is the heart. Its performance is actually comparable to the treadmill, which is also a cardiovascular exercise device. Proponents of the trainer claim that the additional upper-body workout provided by the trainer makes for a more well-rounded exercise session. One unique benefit the elliptical machines have over treadmills is that you can go in “reverse” motion to target different areas of leg muscles. Imagine going backwards on a treadmill! Try an elliptical machine and feel its smoothness, as you seemly glide “up stairs”.
