Roller Skating

Roller Skating is still a fun and fabulous sport!

Skating is a fitness sport and is no longer just a pastime activity. The American Heart Association even recommends roller skating as an “aerobic fitness sport.” The long strides help increase heart rate and strengthen back muscles. Studies have shown that roller skating is equivalent to jogging or cycling and engages “all” of the body’s muscles.

Skating as a sport can be done through fitness and speed skating, artistic dance, derby racing, and good ole’ roller rink skating, and you can even play roller hockey with quad skates. There are all types of classes, clubs and events where you can skate alone, with friends and family (including children), or on teams. There are so many choices for skating there is something for everyone.

The “quad” roller skates (shoe that is fitted on four wheels) have evolved and adapted to today’s sports. Today’s quad roller skates can be boot-styled for artistic and fancy dancers, sneaker-styled for jumping, all-terrain “mountain” rugged type skates with big sturdy wheels to roll over anything. Let’s not forget the quad Derby Skates either!

Long ago, believe it or not, skates were metal and you would slip your foot into them, “strapped them on,” tightened screws with a “skate-wrench,” then were off for fun. Today, they are comfortable no matter why type of skating you choose!

Get fit and skate your way to health!
